Deirdre Howard-Williams
DHW is an experienced non-executive director with a strong international background in writing, education and the magistracy.
Starting out as a teacher of English and French in schools and universities, she moved on to writing textbooks mostly in the field of English as a Foreign Language and has to date authored and co-authored about forty titles. This in turn led to her active involvement in authors’ rights organisations and she has been a director of the Copyright Licensing Agency and the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society which she chaired for three years as well as representing writers’ interests world-wide.
DHW was a magistrate in north London for ten years and a chair of the bench for five of those and went on to be a trustee of Not Shut Up, a charity that helps prisoners to find self-expression through writing and artwork.
Currently she works freelance on fiction writing and a creative business as well as voluntary work to help young people learn more about the world and find their place in it.
