Joined as a Trustee in July 2010. AnnMarie has been involved in the financial services industry for more than 20 years. She has held a number of senior executive HR roles in several leading financial institutions, including State Street, UBS and Old Mutual. Prior to coming to London in 1988, Mrs Newbigin spent 10 years in management and compensation consulting, including 7 years with Booz-Allen & Hamilton both before and after business school. Mrs Newbigin holds a BA from McGill University in Canada and MBA from the University of Chicago.Over the last 6 years, AnnMarie has been trustee for two other charities and works in the not-for-profit sector as a consultant.
Arnie joined Green Corridor as a Trustee in 2012, bringing extensive senior level management experience in the voluntary sector having been Assistant Director of UK volunteering charity CSV (Community Service Volunteers). Among other responsibilities there he set up and led its unique volunteer management Consultancy division from 1999 to 2012. He is on the editorial board of an online international volunteerism journal; is Chair of governors at a secondary school and college for young people with additional needs in south London; and an Advisor with his local Citizen’s Advice. Arnie holds a Social Policy Masters in Civil Society, NGO’s and the Voluntary Sector from the University of Kent.
Paula was appointed to HR Director of Heathrow Airports Ltd in January 2013. She has worked at Heathrow at Heathrow for 13years,most recently as HR Director for the Airports Division and Support Services and previously as programme lead for Heathrow’s Winter Resilience. Paula has a strong record of engaging staff to successfully put in place organisational change and improvement.
Paul became a Trustee of Green Corridor in 2012. He has worked for more than 25 years in the education system, taking on a number of senior roles in mainstream school, alternative education providers and education charities including Director of Services for Dyslexia Action.
Paul has always had a focus on supporting young people who are at risk of exclusion from social or educational opportunities and for a number of years was involved in directing projects for young people in West London.
Paul has experience in managing education, developing and delivering learning programmes and has worked extensively with statutory funding bodies.
Ray started his career as an undergraduate apprentice with British Airways, gaining aircraft maintenance engineer licences for airframe and engines, and an Honours degree in Air Transport Engineering, Ray also obtained a Private Pilot’s Licence at this time.
In 1989, Ray joined the Civil Aviation Authority where he was appointed as Head of the Propulsion Department in 2001, Head of the Aerodrome Standards Department in 2005, and Head of Licensing & Training Standards Division in 2009.
Ray left the CAA in 2014 to form his own company. He is a Chartered Aeronautical Engineer, a Member of the Institute of Directors, and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Ray is passionate about education, training and career development. He is the Chair of Governors at a Secondary School, a Governor at a Further Education College and at a University Technical College, and is very pleased to be able to serve as a Trustee of Green Corridor.
Ruth is a highly proficient senior executive with over 4 years’ experience operating on multiple boards within a complex, regulated and customer driven environment. Commercially competent with a proven track record of enhancing operational performance and leading transformational change that has delivered excellent and sustainable results. Her inspiring leadership style combined with her ability to adapt to all situations has enabled her to motivate and lead her teams to deliver outstanding business performance whilst maintaining the highest levels of professionalism and integrity.
Gareth is a qualified Chartered Accountant. After training in the U.K he moving to Poland in early 1990s, spending a number of years with Ernst and Young where he worked on a variety of projects as well as being appointed as a Licensed Polish Auditor.
He subsequently moving into Investment Banking and possesses over 20 years Investment Banking experience across a range of roles and locations.
Since 2017 Gareth has been involved in a number of property development projects.
He is thrilled to be able to serve as a trustee of Green Corridor.
Ian is a qualified solicitor in Scotland, England and Wales. Ian joined Heathrow Airports Ltd in April 2018, working as Legal Counsel and Legal Consents Manager for the Heathrow Expansion Project. Prior to joining Heathrow, Ian worked for Scottish headquartered firm Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP for 8 years and also spent time on secondment to ScottishPower Renewables, assisting with the development and operation of their on/offshore wind development portfolio.
Ian has previously served as a Trustee and Treasurer for the 2050 Climate Group, and is looking forward to serving as a Trustee for Green Corridor.
Ashley has extensive experience in the hospitality and tourism industries both in the UK and internationally.
He has mentored and advised small business owners as a Management Consultant over many years before retiring in 2012 and has an MBA from Cranfield. Ashley also obtained a BA in Hotel and Catering Management from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
Ashely is a former Trustee of a large National charity, Action on Hearing Loss (Formerly RNID) and has volunteered at the Cranfield Trust which gives free advice to small charities. He chairs the Governors at Ramsbury Primary School in Wiltshire, one of the top rural primary schools in the country. At home, Ashley grows his own vegetables so has great empathy with the activities of Green Corridor in education, horticulture and catering.
He is delighted to be on the Board of Green Corridor and looking forward to helping the charity move forward in its aims of helping young adults with their education and the early stages of their careers.
Tim and his team of frontline tutors and support staff will ensure young people with special educational needs and learning disabilities (SEND) have the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential and participate in all aspects of life in their communities. Over the next 3 years, with strategic direction and guidance from a dedicated Board of Trustees, he will lead the charity into a financially sustainable future through effective income diversification and full utilisation of the GC Learning & Development Centre near Heathrow. By the end of 2021, his ambition is to double the number of beneficiaries the charity supports, significantly and increase volunteering activity and raise onward employability rates for young people with SEND to 80%.
Sophie joined the team in December 2012 after completing a BSC Hons Degree in Social Work at Portsmouth University.
Sophie’s role was originally focused on working with young people, recruiting them onto our programmes and ensuring individual need was met within their training.
After a break for maternity leave Sophie has returned as a Quality and Fundraising Manager. Sophie’s role is to apply for fundraising for projects within the Centre as well as report back to funders on our progress.
Sophie has worked hard to support the organisations Section 41 status and ensure the quality of teaching, learning and assessment is embedded throughout the organisation.
Sophie also communicates with our awarding bodies ABC and Pearson to register learners, arrange examinations as well as working with our IV and SV to make sure that we are working to the correct standards in order to retain our direct claims status.
Initially brought into Green Corridor as the Outreach and Transition Mentor, Jo has now been with Green Corridor for 3 years. Although evolving with the charity, as part of the BIG Lottery programme her role has mainly included progressing young people to the next stage of their lives, moving forward into employment, education or training opportunities in the local area.
Jo has helped Green Corridor to reach Section 41 status and now provides young people with much needed support to access EHCP support, provided by their borough. While working to support the running of the charity, Jo is responsible for the referrals, supporting young people and their families to access the charity in the most appropriate way, providing support and wellbeing programmes while completing their qualification.
Coming from a background of sport, Briony competed Gymnastics and cheerleading at County and National Level. Through this, she has developed her love for coaching Gymnastics, and is now highly qualified in the field, alongside her childcare and PE teaching achievements.
Working with young children with Special Educational Needs and Physical Disabilities, Briony developed a passion for improving the quality of life of young people with additional needs.
Briony has been working with young children ranging from the age of 3 to 16 for over 5 years, providing childcare services, PE lessons and one to one mentoring for children with and without Special Needs. She looks forward to getting to know Green Corridor’s young learners, and helping them overcome milestones to further their life opportunities.
Briony’s aim is to get Green Corridor’s name out to the world, and to inform more people on the fantastic work we do here for our learners. This will allow us to grow and help get more young people with SEN into sustained employment.
Mark spent over 10 years with the British forces as a depot instructor before returning to civilian life to work in sales over in Kent. In 2001 he became a stay at home dad, due to illness but in 2012 was fit and ready to work again.
From being a stay at home dad he went straight into work as a case worker, working alongside adults with learning difficulties, those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the unemployed and deaf young people. All this led Mark onto teaching again and a love of horticulture led him to Green Corridor. In Mark’s spare time he enjoys walking, gardening, competition fishing, cricket, golf and generally being kept very busy!
Mark’s role at Green Corridor will see him working alongside the rest of the team to teach and assess our young learners as they progress through their Horticulture qualifications.
After twelve years in the plumbing industry Collin decided a career change was necessary, so made the switch to study at Merrist Wood College. Collin gained a level 2 certificate in arboricultural theory and the change opened up a whole world of new opportunities.
Whilst studying Collin worked as an archery instructor with groups of varying age and ability, in schools, sports centres and the children’s charity Challengers to deliver soft archery sessions and also spent a few weeks volunteering for the National Trust.
Collin combined his qualifications with youth engagement, charity and volunteer work in his position as an Outdoor Education Worker at Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development; this allowed him to work more in the capacity of a mentor.
Collin spent the summer of 2015 with S.O.L.D working with NCS the Challenge in the company of some amazing young people from south London, he found this work incredibly rewarding so when he saw the Job working for Green Corridor he jumped at the chance.
Collin’s position as a Horticulture Tutor at Green Corridor sees him working with the other delivery staff to provide training and assessing the young people’s abilities in order to gain qualifications in conservation and horticulture.
Clare worked in the Landscape industry for 10 years before studying Landscape Architecture at Greenwich University. She then went on to set up ‘Red Apple’ a Landscape and Arts partnership to work on Community projects and Public Art commissions across Northern Ireland. A move to England coupled with a lifelong love of horticulture and a passion for encouraging and developing young people’s skills led her to Green Corridor. In her new role as Horticulture tutor she is very much looking forward to working with the fantastic Green Corridor team to teach and access our young learners as they progress though their qualifications. Outdoor activities especially, cycling and sailing keep her very busy outside of work!
Dean was previously a Green Corridor learner, completing his Level 2 in Conservation only this year, with his hard work coming to fruition recently. You might even recognise him from some of our project pages. Dean enjoys being outside, working in all weather conditions, but most of all he’s looking forward to learning new skills and working as part of a new team.
He has joined the team as a Kitchen Gardener, to supplying the Pick, Cook and Serve students with fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables. He will be maintaining the BIG Lottery plots, working alongside Tracey, our Catering Tutor, and Mark, the Senior Horticulture Tutor.
Outside of work he likes to keep himself busy. He is often out with friends and family but most of all he loves keeping fit, going to the gym most days of the week, even attending the occasional spin class.
After many years in the catering and hospitality industry, working in many diverse places worldwide, Tracey joined the team at Green Corridor in 2017.She really enjoys inspiring the next generation in achieving their goals be it careers in the industry or working towards more independent living skills, supporting their transition into sustained employment.
The last few years in being involved in education has taught me how we all learn differently, and this has put me in an excellent position to tailor my teaching to each learners’ specific needs.
With funding support from BIG Lottery, Tracey uses a range of teaching techniques and approaches to ignite the curiosity and passion for the subject she teaches which translates to excellent results in the Level 1 and Level 2 BTEC qualifications.
Tracey has also recently achieved her Level 3 PTLLs which has given her the extra skills to further benefit her leaners.Tracey is looking forward to many exciting challenges this year including expanding the social enterprise which was started last year making and selling preserves, utilising ingredients grown in our Green Corridor Garden.
Tim took the path to teaching by on the job training, starting in 2006 and qualified as a teacher in 2010. Over the years Tim built experience and has taught Maths, English, ICT and employability skills, from entry level to level 2. Tim has taught many different cohorts ranging from 14 – 16 year old’s that are in danger of becoming NEET, apprentices, 16-19 year old disaffected learners, long term unemployed adults and adults with special education needs. Tim enjoys working with SEN the most out of all the cohorts he has taught and feels that he can make a real difference to those that he teaches.
After more than 15 years as a TV producer in the busy world of Advertising, Lara decided it was time for a change of career the would allow her to spend more time with her children. She then worked in her local primary school as a 1:1 Special Educational Needs learning support assistant for nearly 4 years. This was both wonderfully interesting and rewarding.
Now that Lara’s children are older, she would like to concentrate on a more creative and challenging role that will still incorporate her love of gardening and being outdoors.
Lara joins us as a 1:1 support worker and is about to start her own studies in Horticulture in the new year. She is very much looking forward to working with the young learners and the rest of the fantastic team here at Green Corridor.
After leaving school, I started my career working in pub kitchen where I was responsible for hygiene duties and front of house preparation. After finishing school, I took a few years out to bring up my children and then went on to become a learner at Green Corridor. Here, I obtained a BTEC certificate in hospitality and catering through BIG Lottery. I really enjoyed my time at Green Corridor, everybody was fantastic. I was also worked hard to get my driving license which meant I was able to carry on at Green Corridor as a volunteer.
When a job role became available as a Support Worker in the kitchen assisting a disabled learner, I jumped at the opportunity which I happily accepted. I look forward to the opportunities this will give me and my family. Since starting work here at Green Corridor, I have achieved certificates in training courses and built a great working relationship with the learner I support.
John is an independent consultant with a great deal of experience in the environmental and heritage sectors. He has previously worked for the Environment Agency, both on the operational side and as a Regional External Relations Manager. He also served as the Training and Communications Manager for the Defra-sponsored England Catchment Sensitive Farming Delivery Initiative (ECSFDI), a position line-managed by Natural England. John’s first job in the water industry was with the Thames Water Authority as a Trade Effluent Inspector based at Mogden Sewage Treatment works, his patch covering several West London Boroughs. He holds an MSc. in Aquatic Resource Management and the BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Aquatics).
In more recent years John worked for the National Trust as the General Manager at Cliveden in Buckinghamshire. During his tenure there, visitor numbers rose dramatically, the property becoming one of the Trust’s busiest pay-for-entry visitor attractions. For a time he was Assistant Director at the Royal Air Force Museum at Hendon, helping to bring about significant cultural and procedural changes.
John has worked on an Associate basis for Barker Langham as part of a consultancy consortium tasked with transforming the Wandle Valley Regional Park Trust so that it is well-placed to deliver its ambitious vision. Following on from this he was commissioned by the Trust to act as their Interim Chief Executive. John has also been actively involved in the development of a new strategy for the Chilterns Chalk Stream Project hosted by the Chilterns Conservation Board.
