Introduction to Horticulture
(18th November 2017)
Our Green Corridor ‘Introduction into Horticulture’ is a 5 session programme run with groups of people who want to increase their knowledge or start from scratch.
The course talks about the world of horticulture and the different jobs that you can do, all while learning about how different plants grow. The course introduces elements of health & safety and safe practice, as well as what’s best to do when and even strimmer and lawn mower training.
We tailor each course so its suitable for anyone aged 16 up, with different needs and different experiences of horticulture. The programme is fun and practical with minimal classroom work and the Green Corridor person centred approach.
Following their recent course with Mark (Senior Horticulture Tutor), here’s what Mencap had to say:
“Since attending Green Corridor, J has shown an increased enthusiasm in general. He took the initiative to have his hair cut, and generally dresses smarter, and is taking an interest in how he looks to others. He is spending less time in his bedroom, and appears in general more inclined to speak up about his plans; overall attendance at Green Corridors has had a positive effect.” Julia, Learner’s Mum
“Green Corridor has provided our service user with the opportunity to join a course in an area which he has been hoping to work in for a long time. Working with Green Corridor has kept him occupied, focused and motivated to want to do more for himself. This has been a great experience for him. The staff are all lovely and have been really helpful. They have made this opportunity for Ali possible.” Abraham, Support Worker
“It’s been great and really interesting to find out that I could do gardening as a job. It has been an eye opener thanks to the hard work that Mark has put into teaching us” Sebastian, Learner
