Home Cooking: About Us

Our Foundation Programme provides essential preparation for adulthood for learners aged 19–25, focusing on four key SEND pathways: Employment, Independent Living, Good Health, and Friends and Relationships. This destination-driven programme incorporates the Skills Builder methodology to develop fundamental life skills.

Programme Areas:

Employment / Volunteering
Learners develop essential life skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and understanding daily routines. This includes building confidence in social interactions, learning about personal safety in the community, and exploring volunteering opportunities that match their interests and abilities.

Independent Living
Practical life skills are built through home cooking sessions, basic gardening activities, budgeting, and personal care, supporting greater independence.

Good Health
The programme promotes both physical and mental wellbeing through health education, understanding healthcare systems, and making healthy lifestyle choices.

Friends and Relationships
Learners enhance social communication skills, understand personal boundaries, develop positive relationships, and increase community engagement.

Community Engagement
Regular trips into the local community help learners develop real-world skills, build confidence, and practise independent travel and social interaction.

Practical Life Skills
Hands-on learning through home cooking and basic gardening activities develops both practical abilities and personal confidence.

PSHE Programme
A comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum tailored to adult learners, covering relationship skills, personal safety, and community awareness.
