Therapy Provision
At Green Corridor, we offer a wide range of therapies designed around the needs set out in each learner’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This includes Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Counselling. Learners can also take part in sensory circuits in the mornings to help them feel settled and ready to learn. Our therapy team works closely with the Head of Therapy (SENCO) to fully assess each learner at Green Corridor. All EHCPs are reviewed at the start of every academic year so we can clearly understand what support each learner needs and how often. This helps us put the right therapies in place to support their progress and wellbeing.
We also use whole-class therapy approaches to support learners’ day to day. Strategies like Zones of Regulation and emotional regulation techniques are built into everyday teaching by our tutors. This means all learners benefit from a supportive, inclusive environment that focuses on their overall development.
Education and therapy staff work together as a multi-disciplinary team to meet the wide range of needs of pupils at Green Corridor. Good communication with therapists is a key part of this, and pupils may access a mix of therapies depending on what is outlined in their EHCP, including Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy.
Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT):
Our SaLT team supports learners with speech, language, and communication needs identified in their EHCP by:
-
Supporting different ways of communicating to build confidence and skills
-
Developing communication skills in the classroom and across the wider college
-
Helping learners access the curriculum and make progress
They work on areas such as attention and listening, understanding and using language, speech clarity, independent communication, social interaction, higher-level thinking skills, and the use of alternative communication methods like AAC.
The focus is on building practical communication skills, confidence, self-esteem, and supporting interaction in the community and workplace, alongside emotional wellbeing.
Occupational Therapy (OT):
OT supports learners with needs linked to cognition, physical skills, sensory processing, and motor development. This includes help with seating and posture, hand skills, learning tasks, self-care, sensory needs, and how learners interact with their environment. Support ranges from universal strategies to specialist intervention, with the aim of helping learners build independence and everyday life skills.
Counselling:
Our counsellor offers a safe, supportive space where learners can talk openly about their thoughts and feelings without judgement. Sessions focus on helping individuals understand their experiences and explore ways forward, rather than being given direct advice.
Physiotherapy:
Our physiotherapist assesses learners with movement and physical needs and creates personalised programmes. Therapy assistants deliver these weekly, with the physiotherapist visiting a few times a year to review progress and update programmes as needed.
