Pathways

About Foundation

Our Foundation Pathway provides learners with a broad, personalised curriculum designed to develop the confidence, independence and life skills needed for adulthood.

Delivered by specialist tutors, learners take part in practical, engaging activities both on-site and within the local community. Through integrated English and Maths, community-based learning, and the Skills Builder framework, learners develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) needed to navigate everyday life and prepare for future opportunities.

Learners build essential life and employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, organisation, and self-management. They develop confidence through real-life experiences, strengthen their independence by practising everyday tasks, build positive relationships within their community, and learn how to make informed choices that support their health, wellbeing, and future aspirations.

Functional Skills

English, Maths, and digital skills are embedded throughout the Foundation Pathway, allowing learners to develop and apply these essential skills in practical, real-life situations.

Functional Skills development is integrated across the four Preparing for Adulthood outcomes, helping learners strengthen their communication, numeracy, problem-solving, and digital skills to support greater independence and confidence in everyday life. Learners develop practical skills such as managing money, reading and understanding information, measuring accurately, and using technology, enabling them to navigate daily tasks and prepare for adult life.

By combining practical learning with personalised support, the Foundation Pathway enables learners to develop confidence, build independence, and make meaningful progress towards their individual Preparing for Adulthood outcomes.
